HOW
TO BECOME A BUSINESS FRIEND OF CHAGSTOCK
A FRIEND either buys advertising, discounted
advertising with tickets, or just tickets.
For example:
An
advertising-only package for £150, comprising elements 1+2+3
as listed below.
A
tickets-only package for £200.
An
advertising and tickets combined package for £300 which
includes advertising elements 1+2+3 and a £200
ticket credit. Ticket credits work as detailed below.
We
also have tailored advertising and sponsorship opportunities,
as summarised in the Advertising and Sponsorship Section below.
TICKETS
ONLY (aimed primarily at individuals, clubs & groups):
A
Friend will underwrite the sale of tickets to the value of at
least £200. The Friend pays Chagstock Ltd £200 (or
more, if you choose) at the time of agreement, and receives a
credit for that value of tickets, to be had in any combination,
at any time. You do not have to decide what types of tickets you
want, and therefore do not need to have decided to whom exactly
you wish to give (or sell) them.
The
advantage of becoming a Friend is that it does not necessarily
need to cost the Friend very much money. You may re-sell the tickets
to your friends, family or employees, as you wish. The obvious
advantage to Chagstock is that it guarantees us some advance income
and encourages the Friend to act as an advocate of the festival.
Chagstock
will not refund the credit, irrespective of whether the ticket
allocation is taken up by the Friend. As the tickets will not
be twice-sold, the allocation is available right up until the
end of the festival. (We will not consider on-selling tickets
at a profit to be friendly, and strongly discourage it.)
We
will publish a list of our Friends as a gesture of thanks. Should
you not wish to be included on this, please inform us at the time
of the agreement and we will certainly respect your privacy.
ADVERTISING
& TICKETS COMBINED
As
described above. A £300 package that includes a £200
ticket credit and advertising elements 1+2+3.
This combination is designed to appeal to local businesses in
particular, which can benefit from the advertising and have staff
or families who can use the tickets.

CHAGSTOCK
08 BENEFITS LOCAL ARTISTS AND BUSINESSES
Chagstock
08 was written up in The Observer newspaper in April as one of
the “Top 20 Festivals you have never heard of...!”
and we are energetically promoting the festival locally and nationally
both on the ground and in a variety of media. We expect to sell
out before the event. We have had coverage in the Okehampton Times
and will soon do so in The Western Morning News. We have a number
of online and arts media partnerships and promotions also working
for us. We are also in active discussion with BBC Radio Devon,
commercial radio and looking at making a short documentary about
the staging of the festival. We regularly go out distributing
flyers and talking to people in arts venues and local towns such
as Tavistock, Totnes and Moretonhampstead. The first port of call
for anyone interested in Chagstock is our web site, so many more
people will be exposed to our Friends than just those who actually
come to the festival.
Central
to our advertising offering to businesses is our web site www.chagstock.info
which is visited regularly by all Chagstockers planning their
visit, and will continue to be used by them as a resource and
reference if they return. Our web site is also linked into the
online communities of the bands' fans and other Festival sites,
giving us potential exposure to many thousands more. We have Friends
and Local info pages on the site where we recommend and promote
the businesses that support us. Friends will also be promoted
at the festival (see below).
We
offer a laminated sign stating that you or your business is A
Friend of Chagstock. This can be displayed on your premises (or
garden gate, if a private individual). This will immediately identify
you as a target for all manner of good will.
Chagstock
is a small, local, family-friendly festival, giving opportunities
to local artists, generating income for local people and businesses,
and bringing people from different parts of the community together
who might not otherwise meet. We also introduce our magical corner
of Dartmoor to hundreds of people who may not know it, will appreciate
it, spend money and almost inevitably come back. In addition there
are several dozen workers, volunteers and artists directly involved
with the festival, who will be brought into the area during the
weeks before and after.
Chagstock
did not make a profit last year and will be very lucky to do so
this year. If we do make a profit we will donate to our designated
charities: Devon Air Ambulance and Water Aid. We do not draw salaries
or charge any personal expenses to the festival account. We only
pay artists and the necessary support and equipment costs –
which are nonetheless considerable! We want Chagstock to grow
and become a permanent, positive part of the local calendar. To
help ensure that we need FRIENDS.
BACKGROUND
Chagstock is an International Music & Arts Festival that showcases
local talent alongside well-known artists who have already achieved
critical recognition and commercial success. We showcase bands
and solo artists, singers, choirs and poets across a range of
genres. Rock, jazz, blues, folk, world & reggae, flamenco,
soul, virtuoso guitar and more.
It
is organised and financially underwritten by Simon Ford, a musician
and long-time resident of Chagford. As the Festival consolidates
its position in the local and national Arts calendar, we are keen
to build the range of artistic participation, perhaps to include
theatre, video projection, dance, healing and food arenas. We
are also looking at ways to partner with a wildlife conservation
group. The immediate challenge, however, is to grow the ongoing
participation of the local creative community and the Festival's
wider recognition.
Chagstock
08 will be our fifth event, and run on Friday Evening and Saturday,
July 11 & 12. We originated as a private, open-air festival-party:
a couple of hundred friends in Simon's garden, with a marquee,
home-made stage and barbecue.
Last
year we decided to take the fairly mad leap to go public and sell
tickets. We did it well; it cost a lot of money and effort, but
about a thousand people had a great time. We also believe that
something significant was born.
We
are committed to both bringing in important international artists
while retaining the festival's strong local roots and friendly
atmosphere. We were and remain a group of friends who love music,
Dartmoor and enjoy a party.
As
last year, Chagstock 08 will be child-friendly, safe, clean and
very professionally organised. We provide interesting, affordable
food stalls, inexpensive ales and cider in our beer tent, polite,
reassuring security, plenty of clean toilets and free drinking
water. We have parking and camping available on site.
In
order to preserve the nature of the event, ticket numbers are
limited to 3000, a number of people that the site can comfortably
and safely accommodate.
The
event is staged this year, as last, in spectacularly situated
fields with panoramic views of Dartmoor, close to the A30 at Whiddon
Down.
Pricing
is difficult. We have kept the price for an adult weekend ticket
at £35, despite providing additional entertainment for Friday
evening. Group purchases of ten or more tickets will receive one
complimentary Full Festival Adult ticket. We have tried our best
to make it affordable – a policy we have extended to the
food and drink prices on site. Ale will not cost more than £2.50
per pint.
